The King of Theives

Jesus. This has some of the worst acting I’ve seen in quite some time. Seriously. Was the director just overwhelmed by his cast? Didn’t think he could ask anything of them. Very poor [fin]

A rockabilly band that should be playing their local pub as the hobby of local geography teachers. But, not a particularly good rockabilly band that should be playing their local pub as the hobby of local geography teachers

It’s really good. Kinda like an heist-movie version of American Splendor. Mixes documentary and drama. Tense and funny. One of the best things I’ve seen this year. Highly recommended

Having heard stories all his life, Belgi-Chilean journalist and film-maker goes to East Kilbride to see if there’s any truth in the tales of the unions stance of solidarity with the people of Chile. Spoiler: There is. He tracks down the auld fellas, gets their side. Matches them with first hand testimony that it was known about and appreciated by prisoners of the regime.

Just some of the touches (the final ‘reunion’, heavily implying stuff happened that all sides you are documenting are saying didn’t, etc) ring hollow. And, they didn’t have to

Brilliant. Loved this. Until the typically heavy-handed “it’s just like today” addition of current footage. We should have got that from the rest of the film (I think we did) [fin]
